PRIORITIES
1) A secure pension – STRS needs to continue to work to improve the funding status of the pension plan. This makes the benefits of everyone, active and retired, more secure.
2) Responsible COLA restoration – Retirees want their cost-of-living adjustment. However,
this has to be done responsibly keeping the long-term funding secure. Active employees
should not be asked to work longer, pay more, or receive less to pay for someone else’s COLA.
3) Health care – There is no secure retirement without access to health care coverage. Carol will work to assure that the STRS health care program continues to provide coverage to
future retirees.
KEY MESSAGES
Experience matters – It is important to have experienced and knowledgeable people
looking after our retirement funds. Carol has experience on the STRS Board.
Securing our future – In her time on the Board STRS funding has improved significantly. This makes the pension benefits we count on more secure.
One of us – Carol is a teacher and active in her local Association and with OEA. On the STRS Board she’s worked hard as an advocate for her fellow teachers.
BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE
Carol Correthers is an intervention specialist in Lorain City Schools.
She has been serving on the STRS Board since 2009. When she came on the Board, STRS was reeling from the Great Recession and the pension plan was in jeopardy.
